Dilla makes hand screen printed, bespoke textiles for home decor, and a range of supersoft organic T-shirts. Julia grew up outside a Kentish village, down a track by some woods surrounded by nature. This experience was then balanced out, after design training at Art College and travels to India, by moving to Hackney, London to work in Fashion and the Arts Inspirations come from nature, city life, and the memories of her grandparents’ house which was filled with archaeological artefacts, antique textiles and collaged screens. Dilla supports sustainability in textiles, where possible, and ‘up loving cast-off clothes and furniture and is currently based in a studio at PrintClubLondon, Dalston, London.
Having recently re-engaged with the art of screen printing Julia Andrews set up Dilladesigns where she prints designs on an evolving range of textile-based products ranging from cushions, bags, belts, and T-shirts. Inspiration comes from motifs taken from her treasured collection of vintage textiles and 20th-century collage work. The range is conceived, printed, and handmade locally in East London and so each product is unique. Where possible printing is done on re-purposed textiles such as denim jeans and up-loved items of clothing to make something from the disposed which can then be enjoyed for a long time.
