I wrote and illustrated this large-format book for Ladybird books to introduce the reader to a curated collection of some of Planet Earth’s hidden species some endangered and some less so.
As with Sensational Butterflies, I used grown up artwork combined with simple text to explain quite complex science in a way that would be digestible to a young audience while retaining it’s crossover appeal but this time we interspersed the factual information with a mixture of myth and legend as well as personal stories from my childhood.
‘This is my love letter to Planet Earth; a celebration of her hidden species, from the bold and the beautiful to the interesting but ugly. And while not a complete list, I hope that these few give a glimpse of the outstanding diversity of nature’
