Description

‘Department Store’ is a screen print of the recently developed Department Store building in Brixton, once a part of the famous Bon Marche store. The screen print highlights some of the buildings original Art Deco features as well as its current, highly recognisable neon sign.

This open edition screen print is a collaboration by the members of Underway Studio collective.

Using the collective’s own photos, this print shows off the newly refurbished Department store building in Brixton, South London. Originally built as an extension to the Bon Marche department store in 1906 the building is now a centre for culture and creativity in Brixton.

Open edition, printed on 280gsm Lambeth Cartridge paper. Each print is signed by Underway Studio.

The paper measures 297 mm x 420mm (A3)

Underway Studio is an illustration and printmaking collective based in Brixton, South London. Founded in 2015, the four members of Underway Studio use a unique, collaborative approach to create limited edition screen prints for sale. Print designs are passed between the collective until they are finalised and ready to be screen printed. As a result, the artworks have an impression from each artist creating a unique aesthetic . Much of Underway Studio’s work is influenced by architecture, form, texture and colour. Using physical print processes means their visual language is both playful and distinctive, incorporating photography, collage, drawing and embracing any happy accidents along the way.
