Scarlett and Valentine was founded by Aprille Broomhead in 2014 when her children where babies. Wanting to decorate her family home with wall art that appealed to all, big and small, she designed considered illustrations aimed to be enjoyed for years to come. Home, as a place of creativity is important to Aprille and finds being in her kitchen studio not 5 minutes from the wilds of the Peak District National Park a constant source of inspiration with comings and goings and the everyday. An overlap of her collaboration on Broomheads’ Homemade with husband, Tony, which was all about playful large-scale design which led to many public art commissions. This was the beginnings of a folk-feel style bursting with simple form that Aprille has continued to explore through printmaking.
Colour, composition and storytelling narrative are starting points for our playful illustrations. Hand-drawn lines and happy mistakes are celebrated here and you will find printed loveliness to gift or keep. We feel strongly about the planet and strive to do our best. We use recycled stock, water soluble inks and all our new greeting cards are printed using FSC recycled carbon balanced stock.
